Hello, As you well know, I tend to use my bolg as a journal of sorts, and that is mainly what this blog post is about. I don’t know why I have not blogged about this in the past, but its been on my mind a lot today, so I figured I should write this down, mainly so I remember the events of the day. (Hopefully I can remember the important things, this was a year ago.) On February 20, 2010 I went through the temple for the first time. I decided to go through the Manti, Utah temple when I took out my endowment. This was a somewhat hard decision for me to make, but now that all things are said and done, I am glad I decided to stick to my decision. I had originally wanted to get married in that temple, because my ancestors on my moms side were one of the first people sealed in that temple, and I liked to think that I had some “family history” there, and I am not one for the common, so I did not want to do the Salt Lake Temple or Jordan River. I decided against getting sealed in Manti, to go somewhere close, so I chose that location for my endowment. I thought it would be easier to travel, since the weather would be unpredictable, and less people would be attending.
Early in the morning, Rob, my mom, and I all left for the drive to the Manti temple. We arrived about an hour or so early. I think we were planning on bad weather, but we didn’t really have any problems. When we arrived, we decided to drive through the town, and then get something to eat. I remember feeling nervous, but I remember it being a good nervous. Once we were at the temple, and waiting for everyone, I got really nervous, We hadn’t heard that anyone was here, and with the weather and the long drive, I started to worry. In the End, everyone had arrived, and I was a lot calmer. I was lucky enough to share the day with: Rob, my mom, Robs parents, his brother Brent and his wife Katy, two of my sister in laws, Cindy and Cheri, and one of my best friends, Elisa, and her husband Josh.
I don’t want to go into a lot of detail, but I will say this. The day was amazing, and it was more than I had expected, I felt a little overwhelmed with everything, but I kept telling myself that I had a lifetime to come to the temple, and that I had a lifetime to learn everything. I mainly told myself to remember the feeling that first time, then try to remember everything else. The best thing about that day, besides being surrounded by my loved ones, was the feeling I had every time I looked at Rob, and finally being able to hold his hand when we were through. It was the greatest feeling, and one that I remember every time I go to the temple. It really was a great blessing to me, and I was glad I was able to have such a wonderful experience.
After the session, we were able to go see the really cool staircases, then we all headed home, and met up with some of my family for dinner at TGI Fridays. It really was a great day!!
Such a beautiful day, Em :) I'm so glad we were able to share it with you. Thanks for writing some of your feelings, reminds me of how I felt when I went through for the first time :) such a wonderful time. We should all go again sometime soon!
